Four senior Eastern Cape police managers had their appointments as district commissioners announced during the SAPS Excellence Awards, recently.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, officially conferred ranks as newly promoted district commissioners to brigadiers Lindelwa Vellem, Zolani Xawuka, Ngangema Xakavu and Nompumelelo Majikijela.
All four were promoted to the rank of major general.
Their appointment completes the process of the appointment of eight district commissioners in the province.
Vellem was promoted to her new position as the district commissioner of Joe Gqabi, after working as the station commander of KwaZakhele.
Xawuka, who will assume his new position as the district commissioner of Sarah Baartman, had worked as the station commander of Bethelsdorp.
Xakavu will assume his position as the district commissioner of Amathole.
He was previously acting in the same position.
Majikijela was promoted to the rank of district commissioner for Alfred Nzo.
Like Xakavu, Majikijela had acted in the same position.
Welcoming the new major generals, Mene said that this was a ground-breaking moment whereby the province had managed to fill all the vacant posts of senior managers in one year.
“As you undertake this new journey and assume your responsibilities at another level, it goes without saying that there will be a legitimate expectation for a new culture of work and amplified performance standard at a different level,” said Mene.
